Visit Harghita Press Conference
The jury was impressed by what they experienced here, leading them to recommend Harghita County as a European Gastronomy Region.
Harghita County has received the recommendation and will now most likely be awarded the title of European Gastronomy Region in 2027. The Harghita Community Development Association (Visit Harghita) launched the application last year for the 2027 European Gastronomy Region title. Recently, a seven-member jury of IGCAT (International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) visited Harghita County to explore its region, culinary traditions, and cultural characteristics. At the conclusion of their visit, they shared their impressions and announced their decision during an event held on Friday at the Ugron Castle in Filiaș (Fiatfalva).
According to Károly Szabó, Executive Director of Visit Harghita, winning this prestigious award is the result of collaborative efforts with the catering establishments operating in the county, a shared achievement that everyone can rightfully be proud of.
"This acknowledgment validates the efforts we’ve been making for years to raise Harghita County's visibility, not only in the online space. It can serve as a springboard to make Harghita County known across Europe and even worldwide," said Károly Szabó.
